Review: Spyder – ‘SPY’ Thriller
Superstar Mahesh Babu and Murugadoss have combined to bring out SPYder as Dussehra gift for Telugu and Tamil audience. This movie is released on 27 September with a lot of craze and expectation mostly on Murugadoss coz Telugu audience is quite acquainted with stereotype acting of cute boy Mahesh Babu.
Story :
Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is a compassionate intelligence officer and strives to aid the needy of the society. He designs two software wherefrom he can capture public pulse through their private discussions. Based on the inputs from this software he becomes a savior to many. He takes another three intelligent guys along with him in this cause.
A lady officer sacrifices her life while assisting Shiva. Bhairavudu (SJ Surya) and his brother (Bharat) are behind this murder of lady officer. Shiva realizes a huge threat to the society from these two guys. Sensing danger Shiva changes his game plan to tackle. This game plan is the crux of the film. What is the plan? Who is Bhairavudu? What’s the threat foreseen? What’s the relation of Charlie (Rakul Preeti Singh) and Shiva? To know the right answers you need to obviously visit the theatre near you.
Positives :
Mahesh Babu’s acting
Episodes between SJ Surya and Mahesh Babu.
Background music of Harris Jayraj
Cinematography
Negative :
Story and screenplay
Songs
Cast and Performance :
Mahesh Babu’s fresh appearance and new style in acting is worth watching for once. Mahesh Babu has matured in fights, acting, dances and all moods of the film. He has grown one more level as an actor. His dialogues with villain before the climax is ultimate. Mahesh Babu has just nailed it.
Rakul Preet Singh as Charlie is just confined to songs and Murugadoss didn’t touch her acting skills anywhere in the story much.
SJ Surya has stunned everyone with his absolute ease and style as a villain. Surya excelled in a particular scene through a psychic question.
As a brother of Surya, Bharat is seen just for a while but grabbed all marks.
Priya Darsi has become a frequent artist in almost all the films nowadays. He just tried to fill up the comic space with RJ Balaji.
Technical :
Harris Jayraj failed to peg the audience and his failure will hurt Mahesh Fans for sure. He concentrated more on background music but left songs unfinished.
Santosh Sivan has rightly understood the requirements of director Murugadoss and his photography has brought some respite.
Sreekar Prasad must have not been given free hand by the director in trimming and joining pieces for which he is best known for.
You will enjoy Peter Heynes and his stunts.
Coming to production values Tagore Madhu, SV Prasad has spent huge sum both for Tamil and Telugu versions which can easily be felt on the screen.
Director Murugadoss has tried to bind the audience with his storyline as in Ghazini, Stalin, Kathi, Tupaki. Murugadoss failed to replicate the same in SPYder. He kept roaming around the psychic disorder SPD. There was nothing new in this attempt.
Analysis :
The story revolves around the concept of helping and humanity. Bhairavudu is the bad man who tries to harm the society.
In the absence of newness in the story director’s attempt to glue the audience failed. Harris didn’t understand Murugadoss’s pulse and added disaster to the film. Though technically and visually rich, SPYder has failed to meet the expectations of Mahesh Babu Fans.
