Right on the heels of fellow Marvel movie Black Panther‘s rapturous premiere, the first Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer has been released by Marvel Studios.

The sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd as the titular superhero, Ant-Man and the Wasp sees Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope Pym finally getting the chance to step into her own super suit.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Trailer

Ant-Man and the Wasp has been touted as the first romantic-comedy from Marvel, which would certainly make use of the film’s charming and rom-com-ready stars. Rudd and Lilly didn’t get much time to bond (onscreen) in the first heist-heavy film, but already they’re showing tons of sparks in the trailer.

But that doesn’t distract from Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s pivotal place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie will delve into the Quantum Realm, a Marvel alternate dimension accessible through magical energy, mystical transportation, or by the scientific shrinking caused by the Pym Particles. We got a glimpse of the Quantum Realm in the first Ant-Man, but its sequel will follow Scott and Hope as they try to safely access the Quantum Realm. There have been plenty of hints that the Quantum Realm will play a big part in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War as well, so it’s safe to say — more so than for the fairly isolated romp that was Ant-Man — that Ant-Man and the Wasp will be required viewing for Marvel fans.

Here is the official synopsis of Ant-Man and the Wasp:

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink: Ant-Man and The Wasp. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a Super Hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside The Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from their past.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to open in theaters on July 6, 2018.
