The Morning Watch: ‘I, Tonya’ Anatomy of a Scene, 16-Bit ‘The Last Jedi’ Lightsaber Fight & More
The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.
In this edition, director Craig Gillespie gives us a closer look at a scene from the Oscar-nominated I, Tonya. Plus, relive the lightsaber battle from Star Wars: The Last Jedi as a 16-bit video game, and watch the first promo for the live Oscars broadcast coming in just under a month.
First up, director Craig Gillespie narrates a scene from I, Tonya featuring the Oscar-nominated performance by Margot Robbie. This is the first skating sequence where we see Tonya Harding on the ice, and the filmmaker talks about how the camera movement in this particular scene reflects Tonya’s attitude during her routine.
Next up, if you’ve seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi enough times in theaters, but you can’t wait until the movie hits home video, you can relive the badass lightsaber battle in Supreme Leader Snoke’s throne room in the form of a 16-bit video game by Mr. Sunday Movies. It’s not quite as cool as the real thing, but it’ll hold us over for now.
Finally, the first promo for the 90th Academy Awards has arrived, and it shows Jimmy Kimmel has had a hard time moving past the incident that defined last year’s ceremony when La La Land was mistakenly given Best Picture when the award was supposed to go to Moonlight. Hopefully there won’t be another incident like that this year.
