New Look at the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Iron Spider Armor Reveals a New Feature
We caught glimpses of Spider-Man’s Iron Spider suit at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and in the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. Now a new image provides us with a new look at the Infinity War Iron Spider armor in all its glory, including a feature that originally appears in the Civil War comics. See it below.
It’s clear that Avengers: Infinity War is going to pack a ton of stuff into its runtime. There are reportedly 76 characters populating the highly-anticipated Marvel film, and one of those characters is, of course, Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. After being forced to remain on the sidelines for the bulk of the MCU films, Spider-Man finally joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War, thanks to a deal between Marvel Studios and Sony.
Spidey got his own MCU film with Spider-Man: Homecoming, which teased – among other things – the Iron Spider armor at the very end. We caught another quick glimpse of the suit in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer. Now a new toy design provides us with the clearest look at the Iron Spider costume yet.

Infinity War Iron Spider Armor
The big reveal here is the presence of the mechanical arms jutting out of the suit. I consulted the experts, aka the Marvel fandom wiki, to get to the bottom of what these devices are. They’re called “Waldoes”, and here’s their backstory:
The Iron Spider Armor possessed three mechanical spider-arms, or “waldoes,” created from rapidly grown mono-atomic iron alloy crystal. These could be used to see around corners (via cameras in the tips) and to manipulate objects indirectly. When in the stowed position, the arms remain within the gold “circle” on Spider-Man’s back. These arms are rapidly grown at the rate of 90 inches per second, Hollow construction allows for all material to be stored within the small back-mounted pack, and the command for growth is achieved via fast neural net-detection and amplification. The waldoes even have small grippers at the tips working as pseudo fingers.
The wiki also provides a brief summary of the Iron Spider armor in general:
Fabricated with advanced protein-scale nano-technology and exotic materials handling, LEP skin display, impact sensing armor integrated life support ant all-spectrum communications powered by a hybrid opto-electronic computer and using super conducting, high performance plastic throughout, the Iron Spider Costume is truly one of Stark’s greatest works (and Peter’s most functional costume).
Of course, it’s worth noting that these are descriptions plucked from the comics. The Infinity War Iron Spider armor might change things a bit, but the general principle is still the same. I’m sure there’s all sorts of tricks and gadgets that shoot out of that Iron Spider suit like a Swiss Army Knife, and it seems we’ll get to see even more of them when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters April 27, 2018.
