New ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’ Clip Has Its Eyes On The Prize
Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the sequel to the anxiety-inducing Sicario, is one of the summer’s dark horse films. No one was asking for a sequel to Sicario, but maybe it’ll turn out to be an entertaining surprise. At the very least, this new Sicario: Day of the Soldado clip indicates the film will have plenty of intense moments. Watch it below.
In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, sleazy federal agent Matt Graver (summer movie king Josh Brolin) calls on his old pal, the mysterious and deadly Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a drug cartel kingpin, to escalate the never-ending drug war by kidnapping the kingpin’s daughter, played by future Dora the Explorer Isabela Moner. In this intense new Sicario Day of the Soldado clip, we see the early stages of that kidnapping.
Sicario Day of the Soldado Clip
I continue to be on the fence with this movie. I really liked the first film, I really like Brolin and Del Toro as actors, and I love that goofy-as-hell scene in all the trailers in which Del Toro shoots his gun like a silly goose (note: this is apparently called “bump firing”). But a Sicario sequel seems a bit unnecessary, especially without original star Emily Blunt returning.
This clip has the same tone and feel as the first Sicario, with long shots of cars traveling down dangerous streets, as a droning, unsettling soundtrack lurks in the background. It’s a fairly intense clip, and if the whole film is able to keep up that level of intensity, it might turn out well. Who knows, Sicario: Day of the Soldado might be the summer’s best surprise (move-wise).
Sicario: Day of the Soldado, directed by Stefano Sollima and starring Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener, opens June 29, 2018.
In SICARIO, Day of the Soldado, the series begins a new chapter. In the drug war, there are no rules – and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways. Alejandro kidnaps the kingpin’s daughter to inflame the conflict – but when the girl is seen as collateral damage, her fate will come between the two men as they question everything they are fighting for.
