Jyothika’s film to release on OTT amidst controversy

Along with the country ,Film Industry is also going through the worst phase due to nationwide lockdown. Several films which are ready for release have been on hold from the last 5 weeks and it is unlikely to expect the reopening of theatres anytime soon. So, producers of small and medium budget movies are giving a nod to direct OTT release.

Following this, the theatre owners association general secretary Panneerselvam released a video stating the decision not to release Suriya’s films in theatres and threatened to ban films starring superstar Suriya, as well as the films produced by his production company 2D films. The decision comes after the news that the film Pon Magal Vandhal, produced by Suriya and starring his wife Jyothika, will be released directly on a popular OTT platform, bypassing traditional theatrical release.

Commenting on the secretary’s statement regarding a ban on films concerning Suriya, Jyotika, and 2D Entertainment, Subramaniam takes great pains to express that any decision can only be taken, at a general body meeting held after theatres are allowed to open again.

The film had targeted a theatrical release on March 27. However, with theatres remaining closed for the sixth week due to lockdown, it was recently announced that the film would be getting a direct OTT (over the top) release on Amazon Prime.
