The Morning Watch: ‘Get Out’ Anatomy of a Scene, Production Design of ‘Shape of Water’ & More
The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.
In this edition, writer/director Jordan Peele narrates a scene from his Best Picture nominated horror thriller Get Out. Plus, Oscar winner Paul Austerberry talks about the work he put into the production design of The Shape of Water, and Bradley Whitford plays an emotion stuntman who does the heavy lifting in a dramatic scene.
Even though Jordan Peele didn’t win the Oscar for Best Director, he still took home Best Original Screenplay for Get Out. And in this video, he narrates a certain scene when Daniel Kaluuya‘s character Chris has this feeling of paranoia as he gets a lot of awkward attention from the various guests of his girlfriend’s parents’ cookout.
Next up, BAFTA and Oscar winner Paul Austerberry discusses his role as one of the production designers in the creation of The Shape Of Water. His role is take care of everything on set that appears in front of a camera, figuring what needs to come from the location or what needs to be created on a set, as well as what needs to be brought to a location or a set. This is some great insight into the job and process of production design.
Finally, The West Wing and The Post star Bradley Whitford stars in this Funny or Die sketch as an Emotional Stuntman. No, he’s not a stuntman who has a lot of problems to deal with, but rather a stuntman who steps in to take over the more emotional scenes for actors when they can’t tap into the drama themselves.
