Book to Bollywood – Bollywood has always been in search of subjects to showcase creative and entertaining topics on silver screen.

Thus, both viewers, as well as the critics, have been witnessing n number of biopics and success stories. Both these things are related to the real world and hence people feel connected to them in some or the other manner. But, then suddenly subjects for the filmmakers changed and this is when the authors’ alias the book writers also got a chance to showcase their stories on the large 70mm screen.

The fiction-based on the imagination of a book writer and the creative side of a movie director blends into a perfect entertainer and hence the Bollywood has been gazing success on the movies-based on books/novels.

  1. 2 States

Released in the year 2014, this movie featured actor Arjun Kapoor and Alias Bhatt who essayed the roles of a North Indian boy who fell in love with a girl from southern India. Being classmate in a reputed college they studied together and found love for each other. But, getting thumbs up from their parents was not an easy thing. All this is the part of famous writer Chetan Bhagat’s book named, 2 States. The movie was directed by Abhishek Varman and is a romantic comedy.

  1. Namesake

This Tabu and Irrfan Khan Starrer movie is based on the novel written by Jhumpa Lahiri. Also, Jhumpa made her book writing debut with this novel which was later adapted by ace filmmaker Mira Nair who made a brilliant piece of storyboard to showcase on the silver screen. This movie was released in the year 2007.

  1. Pinjar

This movie sets in the old time and showcases the problem of Hindu-Muslim issue during the partition of India. This film was an adaption of a Punjabi novel written by Amrita Pritam Pinjar. The movie was released in the year 2003 which was directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and features actress Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpai and Sanjay Suri in main roles.

  1. Kai Po Che

This is also an adaption of Chetan Bhagat’s novel named, The 3 Mistakes of My Life. The movie featured actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Rajkumar Rao in main roles. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor this movie received a warm welcome from both critics and the viewers. The movie is set in the Ahmedabad city of Gujarat and talks about the compassionate friendship between three friends while depicting the situations of 2001 Earthquake and the riots which shook the whole nation.

  1. 3 Idiots

This famous movie is also based on the novel of writer Chetan Bhagat’s which named, Five Point Someone. The movie is about how three college students become good friends and how help each other to be what they always dreamt of. The movie was directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and starred actor Aamir Khan, R Madhvan, Sharan Joshi, actress Kareena Kapoor and Boman Irani who essay the role of Viru Sahastrabuddhe called as Virus among students.

  1. Omkara

Released in the year 2006, this crime-drama film was an adaption of Shakespear’s book Othello. The movie featured actor Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan and actress Kareena Kapoor who essayed the role of Pinky Misra. Directed by filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj this movie also had actor Vivek Oberoi and Konkana Sen Sharma in supporting roles.

  1. Parineeti

This is a musical movie and is an adaption of a Bengali novel named Parineeti written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The movie received five Filmfare awards in different categories and featured actress Vidya Balan, actor Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.
